Breaking The Silence


The house is quiet, the dogs are asleep, and my wife is gone for the morning running her errands. The lonely silence gives our home a feeling of emptiness that seems to cry for noise or activity of some kind. What do I do to fill this void? I could turn on the TV – not much on this time of day though. I know; I’ll put on a CD. How about a little "Stones.", ZZ Top or perhaps some Van Halen; all good driving music, but what makes us feel like we have to fill the silence of our homes with noise or some other distraction? Is it because we fear loneliness?

We miss a tremendous opportunity to have an intimate relationship with God at times like I just mentioned if we choose earthly substitutes instead of a Spiritual involvement with our Creator. God created us to be involved with Him, to have a yearning for His awesome presence. No music, TV or hobby can truly fill the voids we feel when we are alone. Only He can satisfy our need. Yet, don’t we try to keep busy and fill the airwaves with distracting sounds? Sure we do. These worldly distractions will only be temporary though, and will never fill the void that only God can fill.

Considering all this, I have decided to stop my desperate search for what the world offers, instead, I will seek Jesus. I know now that only He can fill my void; the void God has reserved for Himself. I am going to take this opportunity I have to acknowledge His Holy Spirit, which is within me, settle myself down before Him, and allow Him to make His presence known to me.

We are never alone. Jesus is always beside us, just as He promised He would be.

Over the past few years I have been inspired by the Holy Spirit to write what He has given me; many times I was awakened in the middle of the night to write them down. Walk Of Faith

I wonder, do you think we miss God’s purpose for our lives because we are waiting to learn more of what God has planned for us? Truth is; God isn’t required to lay it all out for us. All He must do if He has a plan for our lives is to show us how and then enable us to do it. It seems when we don’t know all the particulars, life is too perplexing. We think, “ but I need to know just what God wants me to do.” Abram (later known as Abraham) probably had thoughts just like this.
