Our Lord now sits at the right hand of the Father, after having been born of a virgin. He was crucified, died, and was resurrected on the third day. He now lives, and He will come again! And, it all began that one cold, winter night in Bethlehem , under a bright, shining star. O hallelujah to the King!
I am not a writer of songs, nor am I much of a musician, but I sense there is new music to be written; inspired by His Holy Spirit with lyrics that offer our love and our true praise! He alone is worthy of our new song. Let us sing a new song!
The Book of Psalms (songs) was composed over a period of almost 1,000 years – it is a collection, or rather five collections – and as such does not reflect a single author. David is attributed with at least 73 of these psalms. Most were written during Israel’s wilderness wanderings, in Israel, Judah or Babylon.
The audience who sang, played or listened to the psalms varied, but most were either Israelites or Judahites. Many of these psalms were used in corporate worship settings, just as they are today.
Psalm 108:1-5 (one of David’s) is one of my favorites. I will “sing” it for the King and you now:
My heart is steadfast, O God;
I will sing and make music with all my soul.
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations;
I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love, higher than the heavens;
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens,
And let Your glory be over the earth.
These words of David certainly illustrate his deep love for our Lord. During this Christmas season, I hope you can sing a new song (your praise) to our Lord. Allow your song to come from your heart. He is worthy of our praise! He is worthy of our song!
