Kicking Bad Habits

“For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but to how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me” (Romans 7:18-20).

Do you have any bad habits? We’ve all got them. We try to get rid of them but many times we become frustrated with trying and give up falling right back into them. It can be very frustrating! Change is possible though especially when we have a trusting relationship with God.

Bad habits can be sin. Sin brings about spiritual death. We definitely don’t want that! Sin can also lead to un-forgiveness which can lead to some serious emotional and health problems. God does not want any of this to happen to us. So, it is important for us to  establish the right relationship with God, he then sends His Holy Spirit to help us become the people He wants us to be. We can change and our encouragement is found in (Philippians 4:13) “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I really like this Scripture, it is short, easy to remember, and it gives me some real powerful encouragement when I need it. You too can gain your own power to change bad habits with this particular Scripture. Memorize it and call upon it when you need help.

Friends, prayer is the real key to changing bad habits, without it most of the time we don’t have the resolve to resist the temptations bad habits can cause. But, when you ask God to help you, confessing your weakness concerning these bad habits, His power goes to work in your life. Change happens! In (Ephesians 4: 22-24) the Bible says; “Put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and …put on the new man which was created according to God, in righteousness and holiness.” Studying your Bible and prayer will expose you to the mind of God and knowing God’s thoughts about bad habits will bring about change for you. I am telling you this because I have seen it happen in my own life! He really works!

I’m not going into all the different bad habits we can have there are too many. You know the ones you have and the ones that give you the most trouble. What I want to do is encourage you to start today to make the changes God wants for you. You can do it! And He will help you be successful.

Call upon the Lord today, seek His power for change in your life, may He give you all you need, enabling you to rejoice in good health, healing and everlasting hope.

APPROVED

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). (2 Timothy 2:14-26) instructs those whom He knows are His ; and don’t we aspire to be recognized as such, to be approved by God? He tells us to avoid godless chatter (gossip), because we will become more and more ungodly. God warns that what we say can affect others, even destroying the faith of some. Heaven forbid we should say anything to do such damage!   Approved we flee the evil desires of youth we pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace. We don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments because we know they only produce quarrels. As God’s servants we mustn’t quarrel; instead we must be kind, able to teach, and be not resentful.   Approved we are to gently instruct those who oppose us, hoping God will grant them repentance and lead them to the knowledge of His truth. Walk Of Faith

I wonder, do you think we miss God’s purpose for our lives because we are waiting to learn more of what God has planned for us? Truth is; God isn’t required to lay it all out for us. All He must do if He has a plan for our lives is to show us how and then enable us to do it. It seems when we don’t know all the particulars, life is too perplexing. We think, “ but I need to know just what God wants me to do.” Abram (later known as Abraham) probably had thoughts just like this. God asked Abram to go somewhere he wasn’t familiar with and he most likely thought of asking God, Lord, must I go somewhere I don’t know, can’t I just stay here in Haran? However, God’s plan for Abram was far greater than anything Abram could ever imagine. Our personal feelings, vision, and human reasoning will always get in the way of our walk of faith . God teaches us to have faith in Him by placing us in positions where our feelings, vision, and common knowledge don’t work for us. Haven’t you ex...
