Depression can be completely debilitating leaving a person
feeling like they have been beaten almost to the point of unconsciousness thus;
they feel or appear to be down and out;
a term referring to when a boxer has been knocked down and is unconscious. This
is a very sad state for a person to be in but, it can happen to any of us if we
become overwhelmed with problems or depressing thoughts.
Depression is responsible for more pain and distress than
any other affliction in humanity. An emotional condition, depression is
characterized by feelings of hopelessness, inadequacy, gloom, dejection and
sadness. When people feel depressed they tend toward confused thinking, lack of
concentration and inactivity. They suffer from a negative self-image,
accompanied by feelings of shame, guilt and are very self-critical.
Some depression is physiological and may require
professional medical attention, other times it can be the result of
overwhelming life circumstances. Sometimes depression can be the result of un-confessed
sin.
Are you struggling with depression? Your first step is to be
certain of your relationship with God. Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your
Savior? Maybe you have, but still you are not sure where you are with God.
King David of the Bible in (Psalm 32:3-5) expressed his
anguish when he was silent about his sin. Our symptoms of depression sometimes
are the result of unresolved anger, resentment, self-pity, or other un-confessed
sin. When we recognize and deal with our sin we can bring about real and
lasting solutions to our lives. Proverbs tells us, “He who covers his sins will
not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy” (Proverbs
28:13.) Any guilt you may feel from un-confessed sin is the Holy Spirit
convicting you to repent from that sin.
God wants us to be whole; healthy in mind, body and spirit,
and in a closer relationship with Him. Seek Him, confess to Him anything that
may be standing between you and Him. He will help you and remove all traces of
depression. There is joy in the Lord!
