Down and Out

Depression can be completely debilitating leaving a person feeling like they have been beaten almost to the point of unconsciousness thus; they feel or appear to be down and out; a term referring to when a boxer has been knocked down and is unconscious. This is a very sad state for a person to be in but, it can happen to any of us if we become overwhelmed with problems or depressing thoughts.

Depression is responsible for more pain and distress than any other affliction in humanity. An emotional condition, depression is characterized by feelings of hopelessness, inadequacy, gloom, dejection and sadness. When people feel depressed they tend toward confused thinking, lack of concentration and inactivity. They suffer from a negative self-image, accompanied by feelings of shame, guilt and are very self-critical.

Some depression is physiological and may require professional medical attention, other times it can be the result of overwhelming life circumstances. Sometimes depression can be the result of un-confessed sin.

Are you struggling with depression? Your first step is to be certain of your relationship with God. Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior? Maybe you have, but still you are not sure where you are with God.

King David of the Bible in (Psalm 32:3-5) expressed his anguish when he was silent about his sin. Our symptoms of depression sometimes are the result of unresolved anger, resentment, self-pity, or other un-confessed sin. When we recognize and deal with our sin we can bring about real and lasting solutions to our lives. Proverbs tells us, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13.) Any guilt you may feel from un-confessed sin is the Holy Spirit convicting you to repent from that sin.

God wants us to be whole; healthy in mind, body and spirit, and in a closer relationship with Him. Seek Him, confess to Him anything that may be standing between you and Him. He will help you and remove all traces of depression. There is joy in the Lord!

APPROVED

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). (2 Timothy 2:14-26) instructs those whom He knows are His ; and don’t we aspire to be recognized as such, to be approved by God? He tells us to avoid godless chatter (gossip), because we will become more and more ungodly. God warns that what we say can affect others, even destroying the faith of some. Heaven forbid we should say anything to do such damage!   Approved we flee the evil desires of youth we pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace. We don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments because we know they only produce quarrels. As God’s servants we mustn’t quarrel; instead we must be kind, able to teach, and be not resentful.   Approved we are to gently instruct those who oppose us, hoping God will grant them repentance and lead them to the knowledge of His truth. I hope you will take look at these brief messages which can be found in the "sidebar" of this blog under the heading of "BLOG ARCHIVE." There may be something in these that personally speaks to you. I pray there is. Thanks for reading my blog and may God richly bless you.

Walk Of Faith

I wonder, do you think we miss God’s purpose for our lives because we are waiting to learn more of what God has planned for us? Truth is; God isn’t required to lay it all out for us. All He must do if He has a plan for our lives is to show us how and then enable us to do it. It seems when we don’t know all the particulars, life is too perplexing. We think, “ but I need to know just what God wants me to do.” Abram (later known as Abraham) probably had thoughts just like this. God asked Abram to go somewhere he wasn’t familiar with and he most likely thought of asking God, Lord, must I go somewhere I don’t know, can’t I just stay here in Haran? However, God’s plan for Abram was far greater than anything Abram could ever imagine. Our personal feelings, vision, and human reasoning will always get in the way of our walk of faith . God teaches us to have faith in Him by placing us in positions where our feelings, vision, and common knowledge don’t work for us. Haven’t you ex...
