Jesus is our supreme example of love. He came not only to
die for us, but also to demonstrate love. His example in spite of all the anger
and hate in the world then and now continues to give us hope even during these difficult
times we are living in today. “Now hope
does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts
by the Holy Spirit, who was given to us” (Romans 5:5). This love we so
desperately need doesn’t depend on us first doing the correct thing or being
good, since God loved us first -- even before we were born (1 John 4:19).
Because He loved us first we can love others.
Our assurance of love is that God’s love for us is
everlasting. The apostle Paul states that “Yet
in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I
am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels or principalities nor
powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any
other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is
in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37-39).
What is love?
Again the apostle Paul gave us; “Love
suffers long and is kind, love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is
not puffed up; doe not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked,
thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in truth; bears all
things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1
Corinthians 13:4-7).
I challenge you today, how can you express love to a dying world?
