DECEPTIVE


“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ” (Colossians 2:8).

Who will we listen to concerning our future, our welfare? A person who claims to have the answers to our many problems or to Christ? I choose Jesus because Scripture; (Colossians 2:9) tells us all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form (Christ Jesus), and we have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority! Not some…but every power and authority!

God has disarmed those powers and authorities that desire to bring us ruin, making them a public spectacle, triumphing over them by nailing the object of their humiliation to a cross. He has given us life-instructions (His Word) to discern that which is, and which is not, intended by Him for our life in Christ. His Holy Spirit is our advocate. His Word says, “Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules” (v.20).

We are wise when we set our hearts on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. We avoid deceptive people and things when we set our minds on things above, not on earthly things.

By His Authority

God has given His authority. God’s plan for authority has been given to His people: authority in the church (1 Peter 5:1-2) which says, “shepherd the flock of God which is among you;” authority in the home (Colossians 3:18-25,) “Wives submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord, as is fitting in the Lord;” authority in your workplace (Ephesians 6:5-9) “Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters…; and authority in civil government (Romans    13:1-7) “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God….” Authority as planned by God seems awkward and unfitting in today’s societies – not that His plan is inappropriate, certainly this is not true. Two Kinds of Wisdom

That which is earthly, and that which is heavenly The Bible speaks of us being exposed to two kinds of wisdom; one that subjects us to bitterness, envy and selfish ambition, e.g. earthly wisdom , and that which comes from heaven which is first of all pure; peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. In (James 3:13) this servant of God, asked , “Who is wise and understanding among you?
