Praying for God’s help
when all seems lost
We all have those miserable times when life situations bring
us down. I have them. When they have happened to me, in the past, it seems like
they began with a single depressing event or maybe it was one negative thought.
Then there were two, then three, and the next thing I knew, I was feeling
overwhelmed. Not long after that, I was feeling out of control, my situation
hopeless. Believe me; for sure we’re not alone in our troubles! We have a most compassionate,
understanding God, and all we need to do is seek Him in prayer. He is so faithful
to take our clouds of doom, and our temporary state of despondency away when we
pray to Him. I can testify to this because I have experienced His generous mercy
through my own prayers.
Charles Spurgeon
in his book; Spurgeon on Prayer and
Spiritual Warfare said; “Do you see
that the Lord’s promises have many fulfillments? They are waiting now to pour
their treasures into the lap of those who pray. God is willing to repeat the
biographies of His saints in us. He is waiting to be gracious and to load us
with His benefits (Ps. 68:19, KJV). Does this not lift prayer up to a high
level?”
Are you feeling overwhelmed right now? Here is what I
suggest; find yourself a quiet place, close the door on the world, and open His
Word. Seek these His Scriptures and consider the love of whom you are seeking
counsel with. That someone is almighty God! He is going to turn your night into
day, and fix all that is broken in your life.
Beth Moore, in her
book: Praying God’s Word; offers some
powerful prayers for despondency. Here are a couple of her prayers I find
helpful. I believe her suggested prayers can be very beneficial for everyone. Read
her book because she has other wonderful prayers and suggestions for praying
God’s Word.
“Lord God, I am hard
pressed on every side, but I don’t have to be crushed; I am perplexed, but I do
not have to be in despair.” (2 Cor. 4:8)
“Father, even the great
apostle Paul did not want us to be uninformed about the hardships he suffered
in the province of Asia. He, too, was under
great pressure, far beyond his ability to endure, so that he despaired even of
life.” (2 Cor. 1:8) “Even many of Your
mightiest servants have despaired of life. Like them, however, I must stand
once again in Your strength and courage and allow You to pour Your life back
into me.”
