“And being in agony, he prayed more
earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the
ground” (Luke 23:44).
Jesus prayed more earnestly like the Scripture says to His Father there in the garden that night atop the Mount of Olives. He was accustomed to praying there in Gethsemane often. As He prayed His beloved disciples stood nearby. Now, the moment of Jesus’ betrayal and arrest was close at hand; He was aware His accusers were on their way, they were coming for Him! The intended tragedy of this night was all about our Savior. Jesus was already experiencing tremendous agony as He considered all the pain He was going to be going through in just a few short hours.

We will never fully understand
the extent of agony Jesus went through that night in the garden; the fear, the
terror, the extreme feelings of rejection He must have felt; and by those whom
He loved so much! We could never begin to imagine the emotional agony He went
through, yet He went willingly with His accusers, His tormentors and endured
His extreme agony just so you and I could be forgiven for our transgressions,
and not be bruised ourselves for our iniquities. “The chastisement for our
peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). His
personal agony provided for our personal salvation!
Thank you O Lord for what you
have done for us. We are sorry and we repent for our sins.
