God Speaks

As powerful today as in Old Testament times

Just like in those early days when God was speaking to those whom He inspired to write the Bible, He is still speaking to us. But why would He want to, you might ask? I believe there are three good reasons why.

First, He loves us no less than He did Abraham, Daniel, David or any of the other people in the Old or New Testament. I believe He is just as interested in fellowshipping with us today as He was with them then. If we don’t engage Him in conversation and there is no dialogue between us there won’t be much in the way of fellowship will there? We must call upon Him, listening carefully for His method of speaking to us.

The second reason I believe God is still speaking to us today is; we need His direction no less than Joshua, Jacob or Noah did. His definitive and intentional direction is what we need to make purposeful, effective decisions in our lives. We can’t do without His will for us no matter how organized or learned we may think we are! His speaking to us provides the data and discernment we need to make good decisions.

The third reason I believe God still speaks to us today is; He understands us and He knows we must have His comfort and His assurance just like those believers in the Old Testament did. Don’t we have our own battles, when our adversaries appear as giants and we realize we are out numbered by our enemy? Such fearful times are when God knows we need Him and the confidence and that personal assurance only He can provide.

This is what I believe is the most important reason God speaks to us today and that is; He desires us to know Him as Father, constantly engaging Him in our lives. It’s a good feeling to know your opinions count or you have something worthwhile to offer to a relationship. I wish I had engaged my earthly father more while he was alive. I believe God still wants to know we need and want Him today. I believe He wishes we would call more often!

APPROVED

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). (2 Timothy 2:14-26) instructs those whom He knows are His ; and don’t we aspire to be recognized as such, to be approved by God? He tells us to avoid godless chatter (gossip), because we will become more and more ungodly. God warns that what we say can affect others, even destroying the faith of some. Heaven forbid we should say anything to do such damage!   Approved we flee the evil desires of youth we pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace. We don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments because we know they only produce quarrels. As God’s servants we mustn’t quarrel; instead we must be kind, able to teach, and be not resentful.   Approved we are to gently instruct those who oppose us, hoping God will grant them repentance and lead them to the knowledge of His truth. Over the past few years I have been inspired by the Holy Spirit to write what He has given me; many times I was awakened in the middle of the night to write them down. I hope you will take look at these brief messages which can be found in the "sidebar" of this blog under the heading of "BLOG ARCHIVE." There may be something in these that personally speaks to you. I pray there is. Thanks for reading my blog and may God richly bless you.

Walk Of Faith

I wonder, do you think we miss God’s purpose for our lives because we are waiting to learn more of what God has planned for us? Truth is; God isn’t required to lay it all out for us. All He must do if He has a plan for our lives is to show us how and then enable us to do it. It seems when we don’t know all the particulars, life is too perplexing. We think, “ but I need to know just what God wants me to do.” Abram (later known as Abraham) probably had thoughts just like this. God asked Abram to go somewhere he wasn’t familiar with and he most likely thought of asking God, Lord, must I go somewhere I don’t know, can’t I just stay here in Haran? However, God’s plan for Abram was far greater than anything Abram could ever imagine. Our personal feelings, vision, and human reasoning will always get in the way of our walk of faith . God teaches us to have faith in Him by placing us in positions where our feelings, vision, and common knowledge don’t work for us. Haven’t you ex...
