Excuse Me

Can I Get Through Here?

It doesn’t matter if we’re a new Christian anxious to start serving God, or we accepted Christ long ago, and we have been serving Him for years, there are times when in our zeal to serve God we get tired of waiting for God. We get so anxious to get started with that new building, changing our praise style, or reaching new people to witness Christ to we impetuously start without God’s approval.

Without God’s will, His timing and His resources we surely will hit some major potholes down the road. We should understand God is under no obligation to finance and equip our plan if it doesn’t agree with His plan. Sorry.

Another way we can run into difficulties in serving God is allowing our pride get in our way. There is a Scripture found in (Proverbs 29:23) that speaks to what I am saying here, “A man’s pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honor.” Pride has gotten in the way of many good ministries. Pride will cause us to determine to have things go our way instead of the way God wants them to go. Pride is something the evil one uses to disrupt and destroy the good in God’s plan by making us think it’s all about how we want it to happen. In (1 John 2:16) the Word says, “The pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.”  Pride makes our service to God about us not Him.

Those who are leaders in the faith have an obligation to be about God’s work, not their own. The Bible refers to leaders as “overseers” and lays out some important qualifications for overseers. One Scripture that speaks to this is; (1Timothy 3:1) “This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work.” The Bible goes on to describe the bishop as one who is blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, and able to teach. Overseers recognize God uses many different people in accomplishing His work. Each one of us contributes an important part of God’s overall plan. The “body of Christ” is made up of hands, feet, eyes and ears, and all are important. Effective overseers work with the whole body and never allow pride to affect God’s work.

Stop, look and listen to God.

APPROVED

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). (2 Timothy 2:14-26) instructs those whom He knows are His ; and don’t we aspire to be recognized as such, to be approved by God? He tells us to avoid godless chatter (gossip), because we will become more and more ungodly. God warns that what we say can affect others, even destroying the faith of some. Heaven forbid we should say anything to do such damage!   Approved we flee the evil desires of youth we pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace. We don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments because we know they only produce quarrels. As God’s servants we mustn’t quarrel; instead we must be kind, able to teach, and be not resentful.   Approved we are to gently instruct those who oppose us, hoping God will grant them repentance and lead them to the knowledge of His truth. Over the past few years I have been inspired by the Holy Spirit to write what He has given me; many times I was awakened in the middle of the night to write them down. I hope you will take look at these brief messages which can be found in the "sidebar" of this blog under the heading of "BLOG ARCHIVE." There may be something in these that personally speaks to you. I pray there is. Thanks for reading my blog and may God richly bless you.

Walk Of Faith

I wonder, do you think we miss God’s purpose for our lives because we are waiting to learn more of what God has planned for us? Truth is; God isn’t required to lay it all out for us. All He must do if He has a plan for our lives is to show us how and then enable us to do it. It seems when we don’t know all the particulars, life is too perplexing. We think, “ but I need to know just what God wants me to do.” Abram (later known as Abraham) probably had thoughts just like this. God asked Abram to go somewhere he wasn’t familiar with and he most likely thought of asking God, Lord, must I go somewhere I don’t know, can’t I just stay here in Haran? However, God’s plan for Abram was far greater than anything Abram could ever imagine. Our personal feelings, vision, and human reasoning will always get in the way of our walk of faith . God teaches us to have faith in Him by placing us in positions where our feelings, vision, and common knowledge don’t work for us. Haven’t you ex...
