The Word became flesh and
dwelt among us
“We beheld His glory, the glory as of the only
begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). Jesus is God, one person of the Trinity.
Even though our Bible does not mention the word Trinity, the Bible clearly teaches God is one God revealed in three
Persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
In the book of John, Jesus is
referred to as “the Word.” He is the essential embodiment of all that God is.
Even before time Jesus was with God the Father and God the Holy Ghost; He was a
partner with them in all creation. (Colossians 2:9) says, “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily).
Jesus, throughout the Bible,
is revealed as divine. Some of His enemies at the time of His Crucifixion even
confessed He was Son of God. In (John 10:30) Jesus revealed His relationship
with the Father by speaking; “I and My Father are one.” Even though Jesus was
tempted by Satan in the wilderness, He remained sinless. He was as God, and
forgave sin, as only God can (Mark 2:7). Jesus performed many miracles; He
healed the sick, fed the hungry, cast out demons, and raised the dead.
Jesus was and is like no
other, and His being human is a vital part of His special being, fully God and
fully man. As He lived here on earth, He felt fatigue, hunger, and thirst. He
also felt the emotions of anger, sorrow, grief, and joy. And Jesus experienced
death, dying physically. “But [Jesus]
made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in
the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself
and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross”
(Philippians 2:7-8).
Having lived as one of us,
Jesus became our High Priest having all mercy on us to give us comfort,
understanding, sympathy and strength through His compassion. “For in that He Himself has suffered, being
tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted” (Hebrews 2:18).
