Aligning our thoughts with
God Word
Lack of hope and false hope
are derived from an ignorance or misunderstanding of God’s truth. We wouldn’t suffer from either if we
understood the Scriptures perfectly, and kept our thoughts in alignment with
God’s Word.
What situation is troubling
you now? Think Biblically about it by looking up Scriptures that pertain specifically
to your problem rather than abstract passages that have general application.
Knowing that God gives us specific instruction for our personal situations
provides us great hope. His Word (the Bible) is our great source of
instruction.
We can increase our hope by
enlarging or correcting our concept of God. Some people think of God as a cruel
disciplinarian and, therefore lack hope because they think they will never
please Him. On the other hand, some view Him as an all-forgiving “nice guy,”
and they lack hope because they allow sin to run rampant in their lives.
Whatever errors we have in our concepts of God, we will benefit and gain hope
by learning to think Biblically about God.
