Be careful of what you
say
The Bible cautions against speaking against one another,
gossiping and tongue wagging.
Specifically, in (James 3:16) the apostle James refers to gossiping, and
talking negatively about at someone else as having an “untamable tongue.” He makes
reference to how great ships are turned this way and that by a small rudder,
and how we turn horses by the bit we put into their mouths. He advised that, “Even so the tongue is a little member and
boasts great things” (James 3:5).
Reading on in this same chapter and verse we discover more
of God’s thoughts concerning what we say about another person; “See how great a forest a little fire
kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set
among our members that it defiles the whole body, and it is set on fire by hell…But
no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With
it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in
the similitude of God.”
We are to seek heavenly wisdom not demonic, and speaking
negatively about others does not come from God’s direction. His Word says; “Who is wise and understanding among you?
Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom”
(James 3:13). We must be careful of what we say about others.
Who is able to sit in judgment of another? Only God, the
Father. Next time the evil opportunity presents itself to speak ill of someone
else consider the power of the tongue, like the little rudder of a great ship
it is capable of steering the vessel onto the rocks!
