Lose Control

“The word of the Lord is proven, He is a shield to all who trust Him” (2 Samuel 22:31).

As a very young boy I learned responsibility. Both of my parents worked and I had a little brother to take care of. I guess I was probably eight or nine maybe when my mother and dad starting leaving us home alone. We had a neighbor; Ms. Gaines whom my mother trusted and who would check up on us during the day. But, mostly I looked after my little brother and me. I was “in-charge.” When I got to be around eleven or twelve I was cooking dinner for my mother and dad so when they got home from work dinner was already for them. I always felt sorry for my mom knowing she had worked all day and was already tired when she got home. It wasn’t fair for her to have to come home and immediately start cooking for my dad, my little brother and me. So, I started cooking for her.

I went into the Air Force at eighteen got married at twenty-one, had two kids by the time I twenty-four and started my own business at age forty. Taking charge has always been something I could easily do. And, if I wanted it done right I knew I would have to do it myself! This ethic got over into my relationship with God as well. I would pray asking Him to help me but, if it took Him too long to respond or I didn’t believe He was paying attention I would go ahead and try to solve my problem without Him! Eventually, I learned something very important; God will allow us to make our own decisions even if we make mistakes. If we want to be in-charge He will let us. We are apt to make mistakes though, even become very disappointed in the results of our attempts.

Is there something in your life now that needs fixing? Are you trying to deal with a big problem all by yourself? Are you convinced you need to be doing-it-yourself? My advice; based upon my own experience is to “Let go – Let God!” Stop trying to take control of everything and allow God to help you. He wants to but as long as you want to solve your problems yourself He will allow you to try. I see incredible results in my prayers when I say to God; “God, I need You! I can not do this thing by myself. Please help me? I will trust you O, God because I know You love me and want the best for me!” After praying like this in total release, and with all my faith in Him I see wonderful results I never thought possible. You will too if you will only trust Him and ask Him to help you. Lose that control – allow Him to bless you!

Our Walk With God

“Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered, when you run, you will not stumble” (Proverbs 4:10-12). Our lives are built upon our first step, and   then proceed step after step after step thereafter. As infants we learn to crawl, then stand and eventually to walk to the waiting hands of our proud fathers and mothers. Our walking skills can develop into running skills; some of us will go on to run races, some will even run long distance marathons, but it all begins first with our desire to walk. The Lord tells us to listen to what He says to us through His Holy Spirit and the years of our lives will be many; as we go through life, our steps will not be hampered; when we hurry through our impossible daily schedules and race through our lives, we will not stumble.   All successful runners have a professional trainer, our trainer is ...

Breaking The Silence

The house is quiet, the dogs are asleep, and my wife is gone for the morning running her errands. The lonely silence gives our home a feeling of emptiness that seems to cry for noise or activity of some kind. What do I do to fill this void? I could turn on the TV – not much on this time of day though. I know; I’ll put on a CD. How about a little "Stones.", ZZ Top or perhaps some Van Halen; all good driving music, but what makes us feel like we have to fill the silence of our homes with noise or some other distraction? Is it because we fear loneliness? We miss a tremendous opportunity to have an intimate relationship with God at times like I just mentioned if we choose earthly substitutes instead of a Spiritual involvement with our Creator. God created us to be involved with Him, to have a yearning for His awesome presence. No music, TV or hobby can truly fill the voids we feel when we are alone. Only He can satisfy our need. Yet, don’t we try to keep busy and fill the airwa...

Awake Out Of Sleep

“…it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed” (Romans 13:11). This verse from the Apostle Paul’s epistle to the Romans is where he was instructing them to put on Christ. He was illustrating that during the time of sleep we are in darkness, our works may be of darkness as well. He went on to say, the night is already gone , in other words before Christ we were in darkness hopelessly lost. Now that He is come and we know the truth of our salvation Paul is saying  it is time for us to wake up! Come out of our darkness, and put on the armor of light, Jesus Christ. We are to make no provision for the flesh for the flesh will only try to fulfill its lusts. This morning, unless we open our minds to the teachings of the Holy Spirit the world will start right in telling us what it expects us to be doing this day. Our night is over, we now have Jesus, He is our Morning Star, our hope, and He alone is the way . “...
