Be Prepared

Get ready, get ready, get ready!

When I was a young boy being a Cub Scout was a really big thing. I’m sure if you are a woman, being a young girl and becoming a Brownie was also huge. Cub Scouts got to do all kinds of cool stuff. There were many times when I got to take some of my Scout “projects” to school to do a “show-and-tell.” The other kids would be amazed that I had some Screech Owl feathers in an envelope, or of my un-hatched, blue robin egg. I show them my “Board of Knots” (a piece of plywood with several different knots of rope which I had learned to tie.)

Getting much older (pun), reaching the “grown-up” age of twelve years old, I became a Boy Scout! Our Scout motto was; “Be Prepared” and we learned the importance of knowing what to do in case of an emergency or how to find our way out of a difficult situation. We even learned how to use a magnetic compass (another really cool thing boys my age back then took pride in learning how to do.)

We are now, today, facing some really difficult situations in our world, and maybe more than ever we need to “be prepared.” Prepared for what? Jesus said in (Matthew 24:6-8) “…And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars…nation will rise against nation…And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

We must get ready—we need to be prepared, because our King Jesus is soon to come! All the prophecies yet to be fulfilled concern the return of Jesus Christ. Although many argue when He will, let us remember that “no prophesy of Scripture is of any private interpretation” (2 Peter 1:20). We have seen many prophecies fulfilled already, Christ’s return will also be fulfilled. ARE YOU READY? I am! I am anticipating with great joy His glorious returning! I pray you are too.

In (Titus 2:12, 13) the apostle Paul writes, “…we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” And we all say, Amen.

Will you “be prepared?” There is nothing in this world more important than your salvation. Your salvation is guaranteed by God when you accept His Son Jesus. You accept Him when you confess to God, the Father, you are a sinner, and that you now repent for your sins. You tell Him you believe in His Son, you know He died on the cross for your sins, you believe He rose from the dead and you ask Him to come into your heart to show you how you are to live. If you have confessed a prayer similar to this truthfully and from your heart…you are prepared! Get ready, get ready, get ready!

Apostates Predicted

Sensual persons who cause divisions   I quote from the Book of Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, who was addressing those who were called , sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ. In verses 16 through 19, Jude warned of apostates who would come around and make themselves known. He described them as grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts , to use Jude’s own words. He went on to describe them as those who would be mouthing swelling words, flattering to gain advantage . Jude continued saying, “But you beloved, remember the words which were spoken before the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. Fast-forward now to today; to our present time, the year 2012. How is this book (Jude) of very few words; the little book which precedes the last book of the Bible; Revelation relevant to our (contemporary...

By His Authority

God has given His authority. God’s plan for authority has been given to His people: authority in the church (1 Peter 5:1-2) which says, “shepherd the flock of God which is among you;” authority in the home (Colossians 3:18-25,) “Wives submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord, as is fitting in the Lord;” authority in your workplace (Ephesians 6:5-9) “Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters…; and authority in civil government (Romans    13:1-7) “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God….” Authority as planned by God seems awkward and unfitting in today’s societies – not that His plan is inappropriate, certainly this is not true. It is more that people have deviated from God’s plan to what seems more suited to their personal lives for whatever reasons they justify. It is it any wonder we have dysfunctional families, government and na...

Two Kinds of Wisdom

That which is earthly, and that which is heavenly The Bible speaks of us being exposed to two kinds of wisdom; one that subjects us to bitterness, envy and selfish ambition, e.g. earthly wisdom , and that which comes from heaven which is first of all pure; peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. In (James 3:13) this servant of God, asked , “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.” Which form of wisdom will you profess; that which is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil or that which is of heaven? At the time of Jesus’ birth, three wise men from the east came to Jerusalem seeking the one who was now born King of the Jews . King Herod called upon these three to “Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.” he said in; (Matthew 2:8) -- the three wise men were told by He...
