We are no longer a defeated
people
Jesus defeated Satan, our
greatest foe with His death and resurrection. The power of Satan has been
destroyed, so those who were entrapped are now free. Keep this in mind when
hardships come upon you and you feel there is no hope.
Why then is it we still
struggle with temptation and sin if Jesus has already defeated Satan? We
struggle because we are relying on our own strength to do what God has already
done for us. How many times have you and I determined to “do better” only to
backslide again and again? It’s inevitable we will fall short of God’s will for
us when we leave God out of our efforts. We need God’s guidance and His grace
to overcome our sin. We are victorious when we depend on Christ’s power. He
alone gives us peace.
”Only be strong and very courageous, that
you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded
you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper
wherever you go. This Book of Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you
shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all
that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you
will have good success” (Joshua 1: 7,
8).
