Be Prepared

When I was a young boy being a Cub Scout was a really big thing. I’m sure for girls it was a huge thing to be a Brownie. Cub Scouts got to do all kinds of really cool stuff. There were many times when I got to take some of my Scout “projects” to school to do a “show-and-tell.” The other kids would be amazed that I had some Screech Owl feathers in an envelope, or an un-hatched, blue robin egg. I showed them my “board-of-knots” (a piece of plywood with several different knots of rope) I had learned to tie.

Getting older, reaching the more grown-up age of twelve, I became a Boy Scout. Our Scout motto was; “Be Prepared!” and we learned the importance of knowing what to do in case of an emergency, or how to find our way out of a difficult situation. We even learned how to use a magnetic compass (another really cool thing boys my age back then took pride in learning how to do.)

Now, in today’s world, maybe more than ever we need to “be prepared!” Prepared for what? Jesus said in (Matthew 24:6-8) “…and you will hear of wars and rumors of wars…nation will rise against nation…and there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

We must get ready – we need to be prepared, because our King Jesus is soon to come! All the prophecies yet to be fulfilled concern the return of Jesus Christ. Although many argue when He will, let us remember that “no prophesy of Scripture is of any private interpretation” (2 Peter 1:20.) We have seen many prophesies fulfilled already, Christ’s return will also be fulfilled! ARE YOU READY? I am. I am anticipating with great joy His glorious returning!  I pray you are too. In (Titus 2:12, 13) the apostle Paul writes, “we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Will you “be prepared?”  There is nothing in this world more important than your salvation. Your salvation is guaranteed by God when you accept His Son Jesus. You accept Him when you confess to God, the Father, you are a sinner, and that you believe Jesus was crucified on the cross; He rose from the dead and you ask Him to come into your heart and show you how you are to live. If you confess a simple prayer, similar to this, truthfully, and from your heart…I believe you are prepared! Get ready, get ready, get ready!”

APPROVED

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). (2 Timothy 2:14-26) instructs those whom He knows are His ; and don’t we aspire to be recognized as such, to be approved by God? He tells us to avoid godless chatter (gossip), because we will become more and more ungodly. God warns that what we say can affect others, even destroying the faith of some. Heaven forbid we should say anything to do such damage!   Approved we flee the evil desires of youth we pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace. We don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments because we know they only produce quarrels. As God’s servants we mustn’t quarrel; instead we must be kind, able to teach, and be not resentful.   Approved we are to gently instruct those who oppose us, hoping God will grant them repentance and lead them to the knowledge of His truth. God’s Family

He provides resources for the family “For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those whom call upon You” (Psalm 86:5). God’s plan for marriage and the family, in the Bible, is intended to be ideal, full of prosperity for every member. Would you say this describes your family? Maybe, maybe not, however, even if your family has missed His mark His Word deals with life realistically. Many of us experience some aspect of failure or serious disappointment with the way our family is living. Many families today are divided by divorce or living as single-parent family units. God alone can provide the needed resources and the loving care vital for the needs of these families who are dealing with life. If you are having trouble in your family turn to Jesus. He is your primary resource for forgiveness and your hope for renewal (Ephesians 1:7).   He forgives no matter if the failure is yours or it is one of those times when someone else fails yo...
