God Is My Banner

God will always be the conqueror for His people

What do you credit for making you what you are today? Maybe you credit yourself with being exceptionally smart, handsome or pretty. Maybe it’s because you think you know how to get out there and create opportunities for yourself, and all this enables you to drive that expensive car or truck, live in a beautiful new home, and keep your well-paying job. You’ve got brains! You’ve got muscle! You’re a work-a-holic!

Life brings changes, especially when we leave God out of our lives. Eventually, even God’s people go through a “dry desert”, just like the Israelites did. Like them, we are likely to run up against one dead-end after another, and one problem after another. Some of us will even blame God, and admit defeat. Defeatism is a curse. It can overwhelm us, and cause us to give up; give up on our blessings, our opportunities through Christ, and even our personal healing!

When Moses saw his people starting to accept defeat he went straight to the Lord (Exodus 17:4). He wasn’t about to give up, nor was he going to rely on his own human wisdom. Instead he turned to the Lord, essentially saying; “You brought us out here, Lord. Now you will have to take care of us. What would you have me to do Lord?”

God gives us our best answers when we run up against problems, and turn to Him, depend on Him. God is our banner! He is Jehovah nissi. After Moses defeated the Amalekites he built an altar to commemorate the great victory. Here is what the Bible says about that altar:

And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi [“the Lord is my banner”]: For he said, “Because the Lord hath sworn that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation” (vv. 15, 16).

Ask God, “What would you have me to do Lord?” Make Him your banner!

APPROVED

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). (2 Timothy 2:14-26) instructs those whom He knows are His ; and don’t we aspire to be recognized as such, to be approved by God? He tells us to avoid godless chatter (gossip), because we will become more and more ungodly. God warns that what we say can affect others, even destroying the faith of some. Heaven forbid we should say anything to do such damage!   Approved we flee the evil desires of youth we pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace. We don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments because we know they only produce quarrels. As God’s servants we mustn’t quarrel; instead we must be kind, able to teach, and be not resentful.   Approved we are to gently instruct those who oppose us, hoping God will grant them repentance and lead them to the knowledge of His truth. God’s Family

He provides resources for the family “For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those whom call upon You” (Psalm 86:5). God’s plan for marriage and the family, in the Bible, is intended to be ideal, full of prosperity for every member. Would you say this describes your family? Maybe, maybe not, however, even if your family has missed His mark His Word deals with life realistically. Many of us experience some aspect of failure or serious disappointment with the way our family is living. Many families today are divided by divorce or living as single-parent family units. God alone can provide the needed resources and the loving care vital for the needs of these families who are dealing with life. If you are having trouble in your family turn to Jesus. He is your primary resource for forgiveness and your hope for renewal (Ephesians 1:7).   He forgives no matter if the failure is yours or it is one of those times when someone else fails yo...
